About the project
The “Improvement of the water communal infrastructure – Rijeka Agglomeration” project is one of the largest investments in utility infrastructure in the Republic of Croatia. It is implemented with the aim of increasing the connection to the public sewage system, optimising and improving the functioning of the existing public sewage system and increasing the quality of water supply in the area of works. The total value of the project is 327,310,895.60 EUR (excluding VAT), of which 69.98 percent is co-financed by the European Union.
Contracts
The “Improvement of the water communal infrastructure – Rijeka Agglomeration” project provides for the expansion and optimisation of the public sewage system with the construction of the new wastewater treatment plant. It includes the contracts for the following works:
Construction of transport sewage and optimisation of the existing Rijeka West sewage system

On the occasion of marking Earth Day, a presentation of the project “ Improvement of the water communal infrastructure – Rijeka Agglomeration” was held at the Rijeka City Hall for primary school students, organized as part of the educational program “Schools of Young Environmental Guardians.”
On Monday, May 4, 2026, as part of the project “Improvement of the water communal infrastructure – Rijeka Agglomeration“, Component C – Subsystem C.1., works will begin in the Gornja Drenova area.
As part of the Rijeka Agglomeration project, Group 1, Component A, works are planned on subsystem A.9 in Portić Street, which include the construction of a new relief channel with a separator and an outfall into the sea.
On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, as part of the project “Improvement of the water communal infrastructure – Rijeka Agglomeration” Component C – Subsystem C.3.1, preparatory works will start on Subsystem C.3.1 Pletenci – Hosti – Rujevica.
On Thursday, March 12, 2026, as part of the project “Improvement of the water communal infrastructure – Rijeka Agglomeration”, Component C – Subsystem C.02, Gornji Zamet, Structure 10, works will begin on the construction of the water supply pipeline branch and sanitary sewer collector in Josipa Lenca Spodolčeva Street, in the section from house numbers 1 to 25.
From Monday, February 23, 3036, as part of the “Improvement of the water communal infrastructure – Rijeka Agglomeration”, Component D – Kastav Expansion, final works on the sewage system will begin in Bačići Street.
