The meeting was attended by representatives of the investor KD VODOVOD I KANALIZACIJA d.o.o., EU project management (EGIS), contractor (GODINA d.o.o.), expert supervision, and the Pehlin Local Board.
Complexity of works on the Pehlin section
From the start, the Pehlin section stood out as the most demanding segment within the group work A – “Construction of transport collectors and optimization of the existing drainage system Rijeka Zapad”. In addition to the construction of the public drainage system, this section is also undergoing a demanding construction and relocation of the water supply network, which further increases the complexity and challenge of this infrastructure project.
The special complexity of this route is emphasized by the extremely dense network of existing underground installations, including gas, water, electricity, telephone and optical installations. Due to the limited space inside the road body, the execution of the works requires high precision in planning and execution in order to avoid collisions with the existing infrastructure.
Completed works and plans for continuation
The contractor reported that a water transport pipeline and a new water supply pipeline have been successfully installed on the southern side of the roadway along the entire length of the route. By the end of the year, it’s planned to asphalt critical points of the roadway and sidewalks to ensure better passability and traffic safety.
In the coming period, demanding works will begin on connecting the existing system to the newly constructed water supply system at the beginning and end of the Pehlin section. This will create the prerequisites for the start of works on the northern side of the roadway, which will include the removal of existing water supply installations and the construction of a new, exclusively sanitary, sewage collector.
The start of works on laying new installations in the northern part of the roadway is scheduled for March 2025. In parallel with these works, works on stormwater drainage by another investor will also be carried out. Coordination of all participants on the construction site will be key to ensure efficient organization and minimize the impact of the works on the daily lives of residents.
Progress on the new northern canal
Representatives of the contractor emphasized that the work on the new northern canal will progress significantly faster than the previous work on the water infrastructure, and during the work, traffic will continue to operate with temporary regulation in order to disrupt the daily lives of citizens as little as possible.
The meeting participants agreed that this project represents a significant step forward in the modernization of the infrastructure of the Pehlin settlement because upon completion of the works, citizens will gain access to a safer and more efficient drainage and water supply system.
Users will be informed in a timely manner about any changes in the dynamics of the work execution via the project website where citizens can find information about planned works, works in progress and completed works on the GIS web browser so that they can stay up to date with the progress of the project and plan their activities on time.
