On the entire implementation area of the project “Improvement of the water communal infrastructure – Rijeka Agglomeration“, works are currently being carried out at more than 30 locations. So far, approximately 20 kilometers of sanitary sewage have been installed and around 9 kilometers of water supply network have been reconstructed. Preparatory works have commenced a new wastewater treatment plant at Delta, and two new pumping stations and one storm overflow have been constructed.
The works are currently being carried out in the city center, Vežica, Martinšćica, Potok, Brajdica, Pulac, Drenova, Škurinje, Pehlin, Marinići, Viškovo, Zamet, Krnjevo, Grbci, Kantrida, Srdoči and Kastav
Upon completion of the project “Improvement of the water communal infrastructure – Rijeka Agglomeration“, there will be an increase in the connection rate to the public wastewater drainage system, optimization and improvement of the existing public waterwaste drainage system, as well as an increase in the quality of water supply. The household connection rate to the public sewage system in the project area will increase to approximately 92% by the end of the project. In addition to expansion and extension, optimization of the existing combined wastewater drainage system (a system that accepts both rainwater and sanitary wastewater) is planned through the construction of retention basins and storm overflows to prevent negative impacts on the sea and relieve the existing sewage system, parts of the public water supply system will be replaces in areas where it is impossible to carry out works on public sewage without damaging water supply pipelines. These replacements will reduce losses in the water supply system by approximately 8% and increase the efficiency of the water supply system.
