Rijeka, March 22, 2024 – Today, on the occasion of celebrating World Water Day, an exhibition called “Water for Peace“, was opened on Korzo in Rijeka. The theme of the exhibition highlights the importance of water for maintaining peace as well as the ecological responsibility we have in preserving water resources. In addition, the exhibits provide an overview of the current works within the EUPAR project, and remind all those who will see it, what we as individuals can do every day to conserve water.

This year`s exhibition theme emphasizes the importance of clean water as it signifies peace and a more secure future for us. Furthermore, we wanted to present to our fellow citizens what is being done as part of the “Improvement of the water communal infrastructure – Rijeka Agglomeration“ project, as the project will ensure even better and higher-quality water supply alongside the construction of public sewage. Thanks to European co-financing of 234 million EUR, KD VODOVOD i KANALIZACIJA d.o.o. will receive 17 million EUR, which is 7,65% of its total value. The importance of such a financial arrangement will enable the realization of projects that would otherwise be difficult to achieve. I use this opportunity to once again thank our fellow citizens for their patience as the works have gained momentum and are now being carried out at more than 30 locations.“, stated Andrej Marochini, director of KD VODOVOD I KANALIZACIJA d.o.o., on the occasion of the exhibition opening.

The installation of the exhibition is organized by KD VODOVOD I KANALIZACIJA d.o.o. and the City of Rijeka as one of the regular activities aimed at informing the general public about the implementation of the EUPAR project, and citizens will be able to visit it until April 2nd, 2024.

The mayor of Rijeka, Marko Filipović, emphasized that water is one of the most valuable resources, and the project “Improvement of the water communal infrastructure – Rijeka Agglomeration“ that is currently underway, will ensure clean and potable water for future generations. “Often, we are not even aware of the wealth we enjoy by having access to clean and drinkable water, because in many world metropolises, citizens do not have the privilege that we have here – to be able to pour and drink water from the tap. Yesterday, as part of that project, worth almost 234 million euros, contracts were signed for the two final groups of works that will take place in the municipalities of Čavle and Jelenje, and I believe we can all be satisfied with what that projects enables for us“, said Filipović and added that over the years, the City of Rijeka has installed nearly 50 public water taps throughout the city that citizens can use, and how historical water reservoirs in Rijeka have been restored.
