Progress of works in Adamićeva Street

event 15.02.2024.

After closing Adamićeva Street to all traffic, the contractor began preliminary works, installing a new temporary water supply bypass that extends from Veslarska Street to Žabica, conducting trial trenching, and removing the asphalt layer from the roadway.

The temporary water supply bypass is being installed to ensure residents have a stable and secure water supply throughout the entire duration of the construction project. This means that, due to the construction work, the existing main water pipeline in Adamićeva Street, which supplies users along that street and beyond (including Rijeka’s Clinical Hospital), will be replaced by a new temporary water supply bypass.

Before establishing the new temporary water supply bypass, it is necessary to conduct a thorough and comprehensive disinfection. The contractor on the construction site is currently carrying out the disinfection procedures. Once the disinfection procedures are completed, water samples will be taken and sent to an accredited laboratory for analysis. The results of all microbiological water analysis will be available within 72 hours. After completing the disinfection procedures and analyzing the water samples, the new temporary water supply bypass will be connected.

Considering the large number of users, the reconnections will take the entire next week with occasional interruptions in the water supply.

Only after all users are transferred to the new temporary water supply bypass, can the contractor on-site decommission the existing main water pipeline in Adamićeva Street and proceed with more extensive excavations.
If the contractor on the construction site were to start more extensive excavations before establishing the new temporary bypass, there would be a risk of water supply interruptions for all users relying on the main water pipeline in Adamićeva Street.

The existing main water pipeline is over 100 years old, and extensive excavations could lead to its damage. Parallel with the disinfection procedures, the contractor on the construction site is currently conducting trial excavations.
Once all users are transferred to the new temporary bypass, and the on-site contractor removes the main water pipeline, excavation works will commence in Adamićeva Street.

To remind, KD Vodovod i kanalizacija Rijeka has contracted reconstruction works for water supply and drainage in Adamićeva Street. The works in Adamićeva Street represent a continuation of a large-scale project for the reconstruction and expansion of the sewage system. They will be carried out from the connection to the completed collector from Index restaurant to the outlet in Ribarska Street.

They are planned to construct a one-kilometer-long transport sewage collector with a diameter of 80 cm, reconstruct a mixed collector with a diameter of 1.2 m over a length of 300 m, build a water supply pipeline over a length of 870 m, including secondary water pipelines, and construct secondary sewage collectors over a length of 800 m.

In addition to the mentioned works, there will be reconstruction of the sewage collector in Henckea Street and reconstruction of the water supply in Scarpina Street, funded in the amount of 358,398.45€ by KD Vodovod i kanalizacija through its own resources. The works in Adamićeva Street are an important part of complementing the project “Improvement of the water communal infrastructure – Rijeka Agglomeration“, which is mostly financed by EU non-refundable funds.

In Adamićeva Street, the main collector will be constructed, representing a continuation of the connection to the previously completed collector in Krešimirova Street. The collector will transport all waste water from the western part of the city to the waste water treatment plant at Delta.
